Larger design firms offer more security, their services, talent base and skill set can offer clients a wider variety of services, they may have a larger portfolio and tend to have and/or attract larger clientele. Large firms can also fall demise to their own size in some areas of special client needs. These areas are cost, intimate client care and bureaucracy. As with any large company, overhead is much larger, therefore billings for their services tend to be higher to accommodate such services. Although it is a common goal of every design firm to establish client relationships, smaller firms tend to have more intimate client care relationships because of “one-on-one” consultation with typically the design professional that will probably be directly working on their project or directly overseeing it. Large firms have more bureaucracy and can lead to forms of miscommunication between departments.
Freelance designers or small design boutiques offer better value for the money, hence our slogan “Quality, Cost-Effective, Visual Solutions”. Additionally, as smaller firms grow, clients and their customers benefit greatly from the work they produce. On a budget of a lesser scale they can produce comparable and sometimes even more quality solutions than a larger firm. Obliviously, lower overhead yields lower cost for services. The cons of smaller firms are also their size. Larger work loads can cause creative congestion with smaller firms, and can sometimes cause some clients’ work to wait. Lastly, some specialized services might not be offered as the design firm professionals’ talent based does not yet offer such services.
Most importantly, choosing the design firm that best suits your company’s needs is the appropriate firm. We encourage you to evaluate these factors carefully in your consideration.
